If you're looking into getting the Tempur-Pedic mattress pad, definitely make sure you think of it as an investment. This is a fairly expensive item, but if you see it as an investment than it might seem more worth the cost.
While I personally don't own one, my father bought one fairly recently. His old mattress was hurting his back, and figured this could be a way to help. The bad news is that the mattress he was using was only a few years old! It just didn't have a very robust design though, so about 2-3 years of use and it was already more worn down than normal.
King Firm Mattress
I was a little skeptical, but my dad loves his own mattress pad. He admits that it was expensive, but he says its worth having much better sleep every night. I suppose I can understand that, but I've never had too much trouble sleeping so I can't quite put myself in his shoes.
The strangest thing is that he says the pad is very soft, yet very supportive. I guess this is the Tempur-Pedic mattress pad's claim to fame. I did lay down on it for a few minutes and found the same thing to be true, that it's pretty soft yet supportive at the same time.
I have to admit though, I personally do not plan on investing in one right now. While I might get one in the next couple of years, my bed is only 2 years old and is still going strong. I sleep really well in it, and I figure why fix something that isn't broken? While I'm sure I would probably sleep just as well with one of these pads, for now I just don't know if I can justify the investment.
The reason my dad could was because 1) he makes more money than I do, and 2) he's older and his joints are a bit stiffer! For him, a bad night of sleep means he aches and feels horrible the entire next day or so. For me, a bad night of sleep just means around 2 pm the next day I'm tired, but I'll be okay to get through the day.
So is the Tempur-Pedic mattress pad worth it? If you need a new one or are having a lot of trouble sleeping, than I would recommend it. But if you sleep just fine, it may not be worth it.
